Summary

This work deals with the loss optimization of high voltage power cable conductors using FEA simulations. At the beginning it is discussed, how the complex geometry can be describes and transferred into a useable set of data. Then 2D and 3D FEA simulations on high voltage cable conductors are performed analyzing the influence of strand diameter, strand spacing and the pitch of different layers. The purpose is to find further optimizations for existing high voltage cable conductors and minimizing the unwanted AC losses due to skin and proximity effect. Moreover, a deeper understanding of the fundamental processes in complex conductors is intended. The knowledge of the influence of the different construction parameters can be of great value.
