Summary

With the increasing use of power electronic technologies in power systems, it is of particular importance to discuss the issues involved concerning :

  • The system planner's view on needs of the power system and how power electronics can contribute to solving the problems at hand;
  • Help in understanding the properties and behaviour of power electronic controllers and how they can be modelled to study the behaviour of power systems (not only transmission systems) ;
  • Increase awareness of engineers with regard to ongoing developments in power electronic controllers and power devices.
