Summary

Vibration tests on laboratory spans are used to evaluate the self-damping characteristics of overhead line conductors. These data are necessary for determining the response of the conductors to wind-induced alternating forces. The test methods and the test equipments employed, as well as the experience gained by engineers and scientist, in this field, during the last decades are described in details.
