Summary
In the manufacturing of transformers, the first drying of a unit is normally carried out according to one of the two following methods.
The first, generally used in Europe, consists of a combination of heat and vacuum. The second, used in the United States and Canada, consists of a combination of vacuum and heat by means of solvent vapours.
As we do not have sufficient experience with the second method, all considerations stated below are closely connected with the application of the first one.
This paper is dealing with some experimental works aiming to acquire more intimate knowledge of phenomena which take place during the European type of treatment.
