Calibration of parameters of the electrical fast transient test system

Electrical fast transient (EFT) bursts are used in immunity tests of electrical and electronic equipment in accordance with the IEC 61000-4-4 standard. However, the calibration of EFT test systems is usually limited by the frequency characteristics of the burst dividers. This paper presents a method for improving the accuracy of EFT test system calibrations by deconvolving the measured output waveforms of the EFT test system with the derivative of the measured step-response of the measurement system under use. The accuracy of this method is affected by the deconvolution operation, the non-ideal characteristics of the step voltage source and the connectors used for measuring the step-responses of the measurement systems. The error sources that may give rise to systematic uncertainties are studied using simulation. The estimated uncertainties of the method developed are significantly lower than the tolerance limits of the output parameters specified in the relevant standard.
