Title:

LEAKAGE CURRENT PERFORMANCE OF POLYMERIC MATERIALS EXPOSED TO ACIDIC FOG UNDER DC STRESS

Abstracts

Aging of polymers is always a concerning topic in outdoor insulation and “acidic attack” has been recently paid attention to in the academic field. However, there is still lack of standard, results and experience for investigating and verifying the phenomena. In this paper, the 1000 h acid fog test under DC stress is introduced, and leakage current data from different rounds of tests for HTV, LSR and HCEP samples was analysed in detail. Based on results, it could be concluded that, 1) most of the samples have kept low in leakage current, and shown overall good performance and stability in acid fog under DC stress, and thus have sufficient resistance to acidic attack; 2) performances of different polymeric outdoor insulating materials were successfully evaluated and ranked by leakage current analysis, and the ranking of resistance to acidic attack should be HTV, LSR and HCEP; 3) the hydrophobicity properties of samples are important for supressing the leakage current at different stages of the acid fog aging, and hydrophobicity transfer property is of significance to limit the leakage current increase with polluted surface. Optimal outdoor insulating material should have good hydrophobicity and transfer properties, so as to remain sufficient resistance to acidic attack in the environment for longer time.
