Summary

This TB provides a generic guidance on transformer energization studies in power systems. It covers the description of inrush currents in transformer energization and the various scenarios where they may be observed. The brochure suggest tools and methodologies for practising engineers in order to study and analyse voltage-related problems (RMS voltage drop and temporary overvoltages) created by the inrush currents during transformer energization. Recommendations on modelling the various components within the study zone and possible mitigation measures that can be employed to overcome the technical issues associated with transformer energization phenomenon along with case studies are given.
