Summary
The concept of a global electricity network has been introduced few years ago in different publications. A global electricity network can be envisaged to consist of intercontinental and cross-border backbone interconnections as well as the power grids in all interconnected countries at various voltage levels. The global electricity network could take advantage of diversity from different time zones, seasons, load patterns and Renewable Energy Sources (RES) intermittent availability, thus supporting a balanced coordination of power supply of all interconnected countries.
