Summary

Many experts from CIGRE and other Organizations very often asked SC A1 to investigate the problem of energy saving in motors for Power Plants, in accordance with what is done for the Industry.
While energy saving has a significant impact on motors when speaking about Industry the situation seems quite  different for Power Plants, according to the results of the more recent questionnaires. The “Update of Adjustable Speed Drives (ASDs) part 1: technology aspects” and the “Update of ASDs part 2: applications” reports, which have been released in 2005, show that ASDs are not yet so popular in Power Plants, at least in many countries.
