Summary
High winds have often caused severe damages to electric over-head lines. When such high winds appear localised within certain areas, they can often be explained by features of the local topography. The TB explains vortex shedding behind steep terrain and provides a systematic approach to evaluate local windspeeds that may occur on overhead lines in such terrain.
