Summary

Engineers responsible for generator maintenance are often posed with the difficult question of whether to send the rotor off-site for high-speed balancing and testing or not.  It is generally considered that doing so is the lower risk option, however, there can be substantial operational and financial pressures against doing so. This document aims to provide engineers with the background information required to come to an informed solution.
