Summary

This TB presents a report on the Electric Field and Ion Current Environment of HVDC Overhead Transmission Lines. It provides information on the electric fields and ion currents produced by DC overhead transmission lines, the methods for calculating these parameters, field data measured under some operating lines and test lines, an evaluation of current scientific research on potential health and environmental implications of exposures to DC electric fields and ions, and a discussion of the role that sensory perception of field and ions may have in the design of DC lines. Examples of how design parameters that affect the levels of DC electric fields and ion current densities under DC lines are included.
