Summary

Effective management of ageing high voltage substation equipment delivers reduced failures and therefore improved safety, environment, reliability and financial performance. Ageing is the major cause of failure of high voltage equipment. A good understanding of the factors that cause equipment ageing (stresses) and consequences of ageing, coupled with, detection and mitigation techniques for stresses and ageing allows efficient and effective management of high voltage equipment. WG A3.29 investigated life management techniques for high voltage circuit breakers, disconnectors, earth switches, instrument transformers, capacitors, surge arrestors and post insulators in detail.
