Summary

A new modular high precision measurement system for high AC voltages was developed at the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB). The setup and the characterization of this system are described in this publication. This system is based on the measurement of the loading current of a high voltage capacitor and the analogue conversion of this current into a proportional voltage in the range of ±5 V. The digitizer is optimized for the measurement of sinusoidal signals with frequencies of 15 Hz to 400 Hz. The characteristics of the data acquisition digitizer have been evaluated in the range of ±5 V and frequencies from 15 Hz to 1 kHz. Additionally, the measuring software uses advanced sampling and calculation techniques to avoid common trigger and Fourier transform problems. The targeted overall uncertainty is in the range of the national standard measurement setups for high AC voltages up to 800 kV.
