Summary

The deployment of a new generation of operational applications in the power system results in larger and more complex communication networks employing a wide range of fast evolving technologies. The operation and maintenance of these transformed networks necessitate adapted processes, tools and increased usage of remotely located expertise to support the generalist skills of the field worker. This technical brochure investigates on the day-to-day operation and maintenance of telecom infrastructures across utilities of different scope, size and telecom provisioning schemes highlighting encountered issues, practices and targets. The study provides guidelines for utilities planning to undertake major network transformations using the observed operational patterns and principles across its survey.
