Summary

Large numbers of old underground cable systems are made with paper-insulated cables whilst the majority of newly produced cables have extruded insulation. This introduces the need for jointing the two kinds of cables with suitable transition joints. Currently no IEC document specifies requirements for testing these devices. The TB reviews the range of transition joints currently available and recommends tests to prove their development, design, manufacturing and installation.
