Summary

Several new generation and storage technologies have the potential to significantly impact power system performance. Most of these new technologies are well suited for distributed generation and storage applications and are connected at the MV distribution level. This form of generation is termed Dispersed Generation or Embedded Generation; On-site generation is another term frequently used in the USA. It should be noted however that new generation technologies are also found in larger installations of some 100 MWs, e.g. recent development of off-shore Wind Energy Conversion Systems.
