Title:

A REFERENCE TESTING SITE FOR EVALUATION OF DYNAMIC THERMAL RATING ALGORITHM UNCERTANTIES IN THE OPERATION OF TRANSMISSION POWER LINES

Abstracts

A reference testing site is developed for uncertainty evaluation of the variety of dynamic thermal rating algorithms that are commonly used by transmission system operators. Although developers put great effort into improving the algorithms differences between them exist and the uncertainty of results is almost unknown. To evaluate the data the standard power line conductor AlFe-240/40 and AlFe-490/65 are used in test site in form of current loops. Each loop is equipped with temperature sensors and is powered to reach the thermal temperature. An adaptive fuzzy control governor supervises and maintains constant conductor core temperature in different ambient weather conditions. The needed current is used as a ground-truth data and is the reference thermal current in the given ambient weather conditions for further analyses. The paper presents the reference test site, weather measurement station and the development of the current fuzzy governor. Obtained regulated thermal current is compared with the IEEE and CIGRE DTR algorithms and some preliminary results are given.
